Firstly, it's a credit card not a charge card.
That being said, plenty of people buy a SkyClub Membership, which is included in this fee, along with a first class/economy companion certificate. Those two alone can more than cover the fee. You also can earn up to 30k MQM a year with it from spending, so someone who has decent CC spend can easily justify the fee.
On a different note, I signed up for this Plat offer and received my MQM and RDM bonuses promptly.
