Last fall there was a promotion where 29k Amex points transferred to Aeroplan got 5k bonus. Unless you need to, I would keep them with Amex and watch for another promo like this.

I can't recall if there was a limit on the number of transfers. eg. 5 transfers of 20k to get 25k bonus points. Perhaps someone else can recall.
