I have done the Marriott one in Spain. We paid €200 for 3 nights at Crowne Plaza nearby including breakfast (just wife and me), 4 days car hire, and a €80 voucher for dinner at Crowne Plaza one night.

Spent 2 hours at Marriott listening to short presentation and tour (which I actually enjoyed). Listened to the figures and bullsh*t and explained that I don't like to vacation in one place but prefer vacationing in places like Jordan, Peru, Indonesia. Of course they don't have Vacation Clubs in these area but sales rep said that would be no problem as I can use the nights at any Marriott Hotel. So I asked her to work out cost per annum for the 7 or 14 nights I would be entitled to each year. This worked out over £100 a night. I politely declined on the basis that I can simply book a hotel night for that much and I wouldn't have to fork out the £30,000 or so for membership.

So it was not a hard sell and we got a cheap holiday. In fact afterwards we took a ferry to Tangiers, train to Fez and spent another 3 nights there. Then coach to town near Ceuta and helicopter from Ceuta back to Malaga.
