I would think this would be the best option if you want to maximize the experience and if a mileage ticket is available for this route. From IAD (or possibly DCA on US? if this could be part of your award ticket?) to JFK would be nothing special, but then JFK-LAX would be in C on the premium service (ps) flight, which is great.
