The E70 will be like F in a regional jet accept your carry on will fit in the over head, if you can upgrade just one segment of the trip I could save the miles and skip that one IMHO.

From ORD-LAX the A320 will have in flight audio, video(?), and a 'snack' [box]. Depending on your travel dates, and flexibility I would try to catch a 752 or the once weekly 763 which frequently yield a bigger or hot 'snack'. Or go DCA-ORD-SFO-LAX and catch the 772 from ORD to SFO; that will be fun. It will also give you more RDM for future upgrades.
