AYQ-MEL is not an issue since I am booked in business, but SYD-CNS-AYQ are booked in economy and I am a bit concerned with the luggage as my wife and I usually end up carrying bags that weight more than 23 kgs each (we have another week or so in S.E. Asia after Australia!).
QF have been cracking down on generosity with baggage allowances recently. Particularly with the introduction of Next Generation Check In where the computer makes the decision rather than the check in agent.
The silver lining is that QF's excess baggage rates are fairly reasonable. You can prepurchase an extra bag in economy for $15 and the heavy charge for bags over 23kg is only $20.
On another note, please do not climb the rock at AYQ. The local indigenous people really don't like it and there is more than enough to see from ground level.
