So after reading the success stories, I have attempted to proceed down a similar path. However, I continue to run into snags with UA Phone Reservations, who insist that I am prohibited from applying UA Type B paper vouchers to Continental flights. I'd appreciate some advice, as I contemplate my next move.
Details follow:
Background: Have 2 x $100 in UA Type B paper vouchers. Expiry date: August 2011.
Objective: Apply vouchers to an upcoming EWR-BOS flight. These flights are UA Code Shared, Continental operated.
Experience: Have been shot down 3x via phone, from UA Reservations (1-800-UNITED-1). The calls are being answered by helpstaff who I assume are outside the US. In the course of these calls, I have specifically been told:
a) That UA Paper vouchers cannot be applied to Continental flights
b) That if I had electronic vouchers I could be accommodated
c) They refuse, or are unable to contact the United Help Desk (instead they contact a local supervisor, who simply confirms the above two points).
d) In an effort to lower my blood pressure, I did dash off an e-mail to UA Customer support. I explained my position, documenting this very thread on FT, and asking them which department I can contact for a resolution. A form e-mail came back, saying that CS would respond within 10 days. Blood pressure has returned to previous levels...
My thoughts:
a) I can keep calling Phone Reservations, hoping for an agent who agrees with what I am trying to do. But that seems a pretty hokey way to do things. BTW- I do not have status on UA, which precludes from calling the Premier or higher desk.
b) I can go (to DFW), having printed out this thread, and take my chances at the United counter there. Perhaps I can stop by the Continental counter, to see if they can accommodate me?
Looking forward to hearing other suggestions! Many thanks!
