That's probably because of your status; I doubt that the OP's mom has any status (else she wouldn't be flying YYZ-BOS on an award ticket purchased with the OP's miles). AA always deposits bonus miles in my account (and my traveling companions) without me asking when things go upside down, like a multi-hour delay.

The fact is, the OP's mom is owed nothing except a seat on the next flight with seats available or a refund if she chose not to travel.

Missed meetings are irrelevant as airlines are not liable for consequential damages. She has no actual damages and AA even ponied up $10 for lunch (despite an absence of any obligation to do so).

To the OP: Sure, send an email. Ask for more (miles and/or vouchers). And be prepared for a polite "Nope" from AA.
