Also your flying pattern (i.e. revenue generated) appears to help their judgement? It seems if you were flying mostly Biz and fall short of Silver they would reaccomodate (my friend was only 23k and renewed silver as he had 2 long houl J-travel at one year). But if you were flying on ultra-cheapo HK-LHR V-class return that feel just short by even 40 miles, i read stories of being dumped to green.
I've been a loyal CX AM member since university days (10 years ago), joined MPC and qualified as SL for the last 3 years with just around 2,000-3,000 miles over the threshold. I only fly J on ticket redemption and op-ups

I mostly buy only V or L for trips to YVR and DXB each year, and i have no current bookings made with CX
