JieJie, the CX pass includes the trans-Pacific segments from SFO, LAX or JFK. Since OP has an award ticket for that sector, the CX pass wouldn't work here. CX pass doesn't have much utility anyhow; when I've priced it out it was always more expensive than the alternatives, plus doesn't generate any miles.

It is best for someone who has the time to travel to many Asian destinations, like the case of my son between his degrees.
