I didnt have a cell phone and it was dark so I decided to drive on the flat to the exit and then to a convenience store parking lot. I called Hertz from a payphone and the customer service rep seemed geninely concerned. Said I could wait 2 hours for service (I was out in the middle of nowhere) or change it myself . I changed it myself and was pleasantly surprised to be offered an apology credit of $50 off my rental total when I returned the car.
