if it's been mentioned yet, but, Raymond Murray's "Images in the Dark: an Encyclopedia of Gay and Lesbian Film and Video" might help identify a "fave"--and address the question of what makes a movie "gay" apart from how one might rank it.
In its reference (i.e., non-circulating) collection my local public library supplies the 1998 edition, as "completely Revised and Updated." Evidently there were several editions published throughout the 90's, the later ones considerably augmented, judging by total page count.
