Doesn't sound right but not sure how that works on domestic but this is one reason why I only buy one-way flights domestically (usually with pass product). That way I can change each way independently.

On those international flights where you must buy a return, it might be an issue but since each way is priced separately on the domestic, I don't know why the outbound should affect the inbound . . .
