I am not sure about AUS but every low travel season (after summer holiday on our end of the earth) CX has a Asia pass where you fly into HKG from US/Canada and get to fly one RT to all qualifying CX and KA destination from HKG for 30/60/90 days. Three years ago my son did the 90 days between studies Sept/Nov for 1999USD.. The only catch is each destination once and no accumulations of miles.
CX pass not a viable option for this sort of trip, as you generally have to keep round-tripping back through Hong Kong. The CX pass is a better choice for those who have some far-flung needs all in the same trip both north and south of HKG. Like HKG-PEK-HKG + HKG-BKK-HKG + HKG-DPS-HKG. And this pass requires flying TPAC on CX, which is not usually a cheap option amongst the airlines. I'm not sure a CX Asia pass is useable with an award ticket...I thought it had to be a paid TPAC fare.
