I dont know if this is the correct place to post in the forum but I am flying for the first time in 20 years in July and am extremely anxious about sufering from ear pain

I flew to New York in 1991 and sufferred 2 perforated ear drums and INTENSE pain for 4 days after following the planes descent. I have not flown since because of this!

I am PETRIFIED this will happen again and spoil my holiday and wondered if any of you can advise me on how to prevent severe ear pain when flying,
