It probably wouldn't have been as negative an experience and I shouldn't compare to Hyatt as we stay there so much that they treat us really really well.
We stayed the first week of April. Longtime Platinum and after staying in ocean view room for one night, asked about any upgrades. Got a non renovated suite facing Diamond head and the Pool/ Royal Hawaiian. The room was very old, seventies I think, and very dirty with stains on the carpet and furniture. Front desk said there were no renovated suites available. I am a frequent lurker here and picked the Sheraton due to the supposed renos.
Found the pool packed with one lady sayng she was going to check out due to no seating. We paid to rent cabanas a couple of days.
We talked to one couple who checked out of the Royal Hawaiian ( on points) due to no upgrade and interestingly were put in one of the large top floor view suites on the same days we were there after asking what the front desk at the Sheraton would do for them.
