I have so far had about 20 ex-JNB flights and nothing stolen, ok when routed via harare my luggage was 2 days late.
Why do you keep a blackberry in your checked lugagge, a bit odd?
With that said, BA/Comair staff advised me to not check luggage more than 2-3 hours before dearture (for security reasons). Also that I should use the luggage wrap service in the terminal (plastic wrap).
