You can check AKL gate assignments for Air NZ on the United website (go flight status > search other airlines). Gates are assigned... they just aren't released because the airport company (a) want you to spend your time in the shops buying stuff rather than in a gate lounge; and (b) have built gate lounges too small to hold pax for one flight let alone two.
