I flew LHR-PHL-PHX last October for my first flight on US. The A330 on the TATL leg was compareable to other legacy carriers I have flown (AA,DL,CO,NW). The amenities and comfort was similar. The only diference was that we were charged $5 for a (cheap) headphone which I have never had to pay for in a TATL flight.

The domestic Airbus flight was also fine.

However, the checkout at PHX for the return Journey was frankly abysmal. The airport was very quiet but I was waiting at the checkin queue for ages simply because of what I can only call incompetence and lack of manpower. Half of the checkin booths 'appeared' to be out of action and noone was around to help the confused and frustrated passengers. Each person took more than 10-15 minutes to complete check-in to such an extend I was glad I had a 2 hours window for my flight although there were only a dozen people before me. In contrast, the WN check-in by my GF was over in less than 10 min total. I found it astounding that for a main hub I could only see 2-3 employees dealing with passengers
