Had a 2 night stay at The Westin Bonaventure. Not the favorite Westin I've been in, but after reading all the negative reviews, I was expecting the worst. I've hesitated to stay here in the past, but think that I will pick it over the Sheraton in the future when staying downtown, especially now that the renovations are about completed:
Pros:
1. Upgraded to a "Suite", which is basically two of the pie shape rooms. I would indeed be worried about the size of the rooms if set up like a single. Overall, it was a nice use of space. I was on the 10th floor (1003), so really no view.
2. Staff in the rooftop restaurant very very good (for lunch and breakfast--it was the only restaurant open during renovations). Generally, very friendly staff with lots of hellos as I walked through. Valet very responsive.
3. Overall, I think a better location and convenience than the Sheraton. A little grocery/food mart in the mall; Starbucks across the street, and a few restaurants within walking distance. Neighborhood feels safer than the Sheraton as well.
4. Room very clean, and 2 bathsheets each day

. Half bath was a nice plus.
5. Very easy access from freeways.
6. Overall, very quiet--rooms are set in circular fashions, and little or no street noise that I could hear from the lowest guest room floor (10th).
Cons:
1. The renovations in the lobby, but they are about done--should be done by late May.
2. Rooftop restaurant VERY expensive. Since it was the only restaurant open due to renovations, the prices continued to reflect the good view. Breakfast buffet is actually very good, even though it is described as "limited for $18. $26 for eggs is a bit ridiculous though (room service).
3. Can be confusing to get around; the shape and design of the hotel can easily turn you around. Not a deal breaker by any means, but a bit awkward to find anything. Even the concierge was heard apologizing to a guest because she was giving the wrong directions because she "got turned around".
BTW, I did not find any problems with the internet speed. It was about what you typically get in a hotel. AT&T Cell coverage though was pretty lousy (not unique though). Overall, location I think is 2nd to the JW/Ritz, and better than the Sheraton. The quality of the room and service is equal to the Sheraton. No lounge, but I didn't care much for the Sheraton lounge when I stayed there either.
