If he doesn't have luggage to checkin, for sure he can spend all day in the lounge.
This is exactly what I'm planning on doing.
I check in online and travel with only carry on, then turn up very early to the flight and get some work done in the lounge.
I did worry though as the flight is short haul whether I would be questioned by the dragons much (as I doubt they got their nickname for no reason).
