I have given up using the mobile boarding pass since I (and most people I notice) have beacoup trouble getting the AA scanners to read it. The TSA scanners never have an issue with it.
I once saw a guy trying to use the .pdf boarding pass attached to the email they send you when you check in for mobile boarding passes.
Are you still awaiting your upgrade when you try to get your mobile boarding pass in the app? I haven't gotten that to work, but if my upgrade already cleared I haven't had any issues.
I've also noticed that if I increase the brightness to the highest level on my phone the scanner works much faster. (The scanners being operational in the first place is another story...)
BTW, where can you see the upgrade list in the app? (Or anywhere other than at the screen behind the gate for that matter...)
