It would also depend on your class of service..

SQ tends to overlook F pax and sometimes J.. But they do enforce strict ruling against it in Y.

Overall, you will have to see whether or not the laptop and its bag actually fits the carry-on requirement (they might let you get away with just some minor size differences).
