If you can change you QF flight to the BA codeshare ( BA7306 ) rather than the QF number 6 , then you can stay on the same flight and earn 100% to Aadvantage
That's true, about the points. But in the near future, I imagine I would only fly 1-2 BA flights within continental Europe with discount economy tickets. With 500 points given by AA/BA for these tickets, I would need to fly 12-14 times (within Europe) in order to make up for the 6k loss.
Unless... I change my flight to the BA one... I checked and it costs a lot more to fly with BA. Also, it's a bit weird because I am actually flying from LON-FRA (on Ryanair) then will catch QF's to FRA-SIN. It's a bit complicated and expensive for me at this stage.
For BA's discounted economy flights, QF offers a minimum 125 miles, which is actually 50% of my intra-Europe flight. So it's not actually 25% for my case.
I'll aim to collect enough points to redeem something and will rethink my membership with QF when my circumstances change. As I am a student now, I might just become a jetsetting management exec soon...
