As lame as the promos have been so far, even I don't think AA is limiting the participants of the Day 1 promo to people who fly out of hubs. I'd be shocked if a connecting flight would disqualify you from this promo.
On the topic of qualifications,...Too bad RT JetBlue flights booked through AA.com are not eligible for the Day 1 deal. Seems that one qualification is that the flight must have an AA flight number, which JetBlue flights don't seem to have. The $9 flights announced today from EWR-BOS would have been a sweet deal.
