No, there is no inherent requirement to assist other passengers. Just open the exit and bug out.

What to do with exit window differs between airlines. Some say throw it out others say put it in the row of seats ahead. Since there are likely people in the seats, the latter seems it would only add confusion and delay. I'm going to hurl it out.
