As a privilege to most of us FFs, we are given the exit row. When the requirements say "willing and able to assist in the event of an emergency" - what does that mean? If there is an emergency, what does assisting mean? Get to the door? Open it and get out? How else do you assist? I don't think standing on the wing and guiding people is very safe for any party...
Time permitting, the crewmember in charge of your area will brief you on specific duties. If no time exists to brief regarding the evacuation and the danger is self-evident, your duties would include opening the door and/or assisting with initiation of the evacuation following crew commands. Ideally you would exit the aircraft first and assist others with their exit from the ground as long as providing such assistance remained safe.
