Several years ago I had a problem with a rental with Alamo. Problem was I was in south Maine. I rented the car in Providence, RI. The nearest locations were Boston, Portland Maine, and then Providence. Portland Maine was probably 45 miles from where I was I am guessing.

After haggling on the phone for awhile, somehow I was able to make it (barely) to Portland Maine and then was able to switch.

I think I called some 1-800 service line that was listed in the brochure, not the location I rented it from. The service guy had to pull some strings, but it worked out just fine in the end...but dang!

Your experience sounds much worse
