Yes, you are allowed to have a witness of your choice, and as we all know the line of people just waiting around at the airport to do this for you if you are traveling alone goes out the door and snakes around the block. You'll almost certainly run into a few of your neighbors, some friends from Church and the PTA president in the line - any of them will do, pick somebody.
At the
very least, turn on a recording device if you can before you enter the checkpoint (every time) and leave it running so that you at least capture audio.
