Singapore Airlines has ime some of the best service around, will be using the A380 on LAX-NRT-SIN and has often offered cheap economy fares to DPS in the past. It's my chosen manner to get to DPS. This is particularly true if you are bringing a surfboard, they aren't subject to excess charges unless you exceed your baggage allowance. The only problem is the extra connection going LAX-SIN-NRT-DPS.

Don't forget that there are other carriers that will get you from SIN or HKG to DPS. Air Asia comes to mind.
FWIW I've not found connecting via this manner much cheaper, and often more expensive when pricing
