I can't bring myself to do three hours (though I have increased from 55 minutes to 105-120 minutes at NoS airports), but I think your second point is the most important thing of all.

If passengers are mentally prepared to walk away, it takes away almost all of TSA's power, which is based on intimidation with DYW TFT.

The only flights I *have* to get on would be those to a loved-one's hospital or death bed and an international (or Hawaii) return to the US. And the international return can always be rebooked. All other flights can be worked around.
