Big downside to the 'cash-deposit' is that you tend to have to wait in a line (often a long line) to retrieve your 'cash' and 'settle' your folio. In 'modern times' (and when using a credit card) you can instead just review your folio (easiest on the TV) and either just leave and/or advise the front desk via phone (or checkout on the TV) to just mail (email) a copy of the (settled) folio. Saving you you the hassle of physically checking out.
If I am checking out in the morning, I settle my bill the previous night (when the lines are generally much shorter). But once the bill is settled NO further charges can be made to the room. (Of course, if you carry out the 42" plasma TV, they would have difficulty collecting.
