I totally agree with the thrust of this thread. This is obviously an area that has been (hic) overlooked for sum time. At a minimum the following steps are warranted.

1. An FAA approved interim procedure be implemented to track the number of drinks served to each exit row Customer. Tracking is to be accomplished via a magic marker hash mark applied to the forehead. Marks-a-Lot permanent black is preferred. This step is needed because the Customer could be served by A, B, or C.

2. The company in collaboration with the FAA will decide the max number of drinks to be served. Herb will have 51 percent of the votes in deciding the limit. (heard he has switched to Level Vodka from WT.)

3. The FAA will issue an NPRM (Notice of Proposed Rulemaking) for comment since this is something in the public interest. Since this usually takes awhile, the FAA will in the interim issue an AC (Advisory Circular) to cover the changes and to provide guidance to air carriers on how to implement the changes.

4. The AC will also provide guidance on the size and wording of the placards to be placed above the exit rows advising Customers of the drink limit.

5. The company will issue RBF's (Read Before Fly) for both flight attendants and pilots on the new changes. MdV will require flight attendants to purchase their own markers. This will be grieved and become a contract issue ultimately settled with a side letter.

6. Recurrent training will be needed to train Flight Attendants on proper marking technique and script for when the limit is reached.

7. The FAA will issue a research contract for the development of electronic sniffer devices for exit rows so that the Phase 1 marking procedure can be discontinued. This will be completed at about the same time that vacuum tubes are eliminated from FAA control towers.

8. Future aircraft certification standards will be amended to include testing the operation of over-wing exits with Customers being at the "Limit."

9. FAA inspectors would be required to "ride" the exit rows as ghost riders to confirm that all regulations are being routinely followed. Airlines would be fined $10,000 for each drink served over the maximum allowable limit.
