Do some AA fares prohibit standby and/or Confirmed Flight Change?

Thinking about changing a EWR-DFW-OGG-HNL to EWR-ORD-HNL. Friend said EXP desk told him (on a wholly domestic recent trip) that his fare didn't allow standby/CFC. Is it in fact true that AA issues some tickets that prevent standby/CFC?
