This can happen and it is probably more likely to happen on the CUN route than say on the shorter routes to MCO, ANU etc as the YMM* 48J aircraft have crew bunks which may be needed on the CUN flight. I would pay for seat selection- if you secure 4AB/JK the seat map will change at T-72 (if it changes at all) and then you will be able to move back to 5AB/JK.
2AB are also very good seats when travelling as a pair- 2B has some extra legroom and no one steps over you to get to the aisle as it is at the bulkhead. They also get served first, which on busy BA LGW flights is a good factor as I didn't even manage to get my first starter or main meal choice when I was in 10A last summer to UVF!
