Bad idea IMO. HND is prime real estate, just horrible hours. AA should at least cling on to HND until they open up the restrictive hours for daytime landings and departures.
Besides, doesn't AA already have JBV with JL to allow for more freedom in scheduling landing and departure times at HND? NH seems to be doing really well on their late night LAX departure/early morning HND arrival flights, maybe AA could check into that instead of just giving up.
If AA could swap the landing to an early morning arrival and depart late in the evening, it would work better. But AA has it the other way around.
AA is not giving up it's Haneda slot. It is allowed to suspend the service in 90 day intervals as per DOT rules. Delta did the same thing with both it's slots.

Probably, but the slot must be used for JFK.
One thing AA could look at is reversing the schedule by parking the plane at Haneda all day. They park planes all day in South America - even low-yielding Belo Horizonte - so it's not that far fetched of an idea.
