You know - I just don't get the Marriott apoligist thing thrown around - just like I don't get the Hilton or Starwood or Hyatt or United titles thrown around in those forums.
Some will say something is ok; others will say it's not. Short of it being an obvious, way beyond the pale, it could go either way, so pfft

to the folk always accusing others of being apologists on situations that could go either way.
Just cuz one person is not happy or thinks a hotel screwed up doesn't mean another person will. Most of the time, including on this thread, it's a case of your view may vary. Doesn't make either right or wrong.
Let me put myself in the OP's shoes. Would I be thrilled about being woken up at 6:30am? Nope. Would it be the end of my world? Nope. Irritant - yeah, big time, assuming I actually had my phone on at that time. Not everyone does. Would I be unhappy if they cancelled my 6 rooms because they couldn't reach me? That would be H*ll to the yes, especially if I couldn't get another room due to a sold-out, citywide situation. Would I be glad that this made me nervous enough to actually pro-actively check my ressie? Well I wouldn't say glad up front, but I would be glad when I did & found out that I could have been in a bit of stickey-wicket, but now I'm sorted & can relax.
For the record - no, Marriott doesn't know where someone 'lives' by their reservation. That's a simplistic answer. I live 3 time zones away from where my 'reservation' says (since my reservation is based on my profile). RogerD408 said similar.
And FWIW - how many folk actually get calls at all asking for a confirmation of an upcoming stay? (crickets chirping; yeah that's what I thought). This call was based on 6 rooms in a citywide/soldout event, & the hotel wanting to confirm the rooms actually being used. Although in fairness, the hotel could have just charged the OP for the rooms, but that would have only gotten the first night covered unless the confirmation had a preset of you don't show you're on the hook for the entire stay.
Cheers.
