I disagree. There is no excuse. The hotel knows where the guy lives by his reservation. Employees need to think a little before dialing. In addition, I do not love the policy of calling to verify someone is using the rooms they reserved though I realize many hotels do this with the cancellation time being so late in the game.
But who's to say you are at your "home address"? I have a Bay Area address on file, a FL telephone number, and haven't been "home" for almost five years. Granted not the norm, but neither is a reservation for six rooms. The property gets points for being proactive to confirm, but they loose points for execution.
Not the end of the world and telemarketers still fall much lower on the evolutionary scale in my book.
