I absolutely hate code shares. They should be banned, or if an airline is selling a code share they should be required to plainly disclose that the pax is purchasing an inferior ticket and they won't be able to x, y, z, etc.
Or that they will be. There are some occasional benefits to them as well. A CO metal flight gets all the CO rules, even if it is UA coded which can have its benefits.
FWIW, I managed to apply CO's SDC rules to a CO-issued, CO-coded, UA operated segment last week but it took a little bit of work to make it happen, including UA off-loading me from the flight and the CO agents taking back control of the ticket. But I got home early, which is what I really wanted.
