Service levels dont fluctuate much between carriers to USA. Line ups, hassles, and cancellations do vary by carrier.

CO via EWR is fine if you're on the 6am YOW-EWR. Otherwise, avoid EWR at all costs.

As a frequent YOW - USA traveller, I highly recommend CLT/IAD connections if you're heading southeast USA. ORD/DTW for west. Obviously, price and FF alliance will impact your decision.
