I second USAFAN's advice. You'll be paying about $30 per day to park outside of Venice and you can't drive in Venice itself. If you're driving out into the countryside, rent the car just for that portion of your trip. As to your original question, you should check with your card--there are special isurance rules for rentals in Italy.
