I will be traveling to Venice this week and renting a car from Avis. I have a Platinum Mastercard and after checking with them it appears as if CDW is covered, given certain conditions and up to certain limits. For instance, MC will cover damage to the rental car up to $50,000, but will provide no coverage to any other car that may be damaged.

Has anyone had experience with this and is it worth the potential hassles, and about $100 savings in my case, to decline Avis's CDW coverage and go with that provided by MC?
