Are you sure they don't offer insurance as an optional extra? If that isn't the case than I believe you may have a case based on reasonable expectation.

It actually took me 1 click on their website to find the following:

Insurance

First Luggage recommends clients have adequate insurance in the unlikely event of loss or damage. Most clients are covered under their Home Contents Insurance Policy and advise their Insurers before travelling.
