I booked a holiday for my family to the Maldives and unfortunately we were not flying direct and not even on a through ticket (LHR to Doha in BA first then economy on Qatar) so i decided to use the facility on the "Manage my booking" page on the British Airways website and paid to use a company called "First luggage" to pick up my luggage from my home address and deliver it to our hotel in the Maldives. Unfortunately even though their website states that they "Promise" that once you have tried First Luggage you will never want to carry your own luggage again and that their "Mission" is to deliver your luggage to your chosen destination before/by your requested date and they even go as far as saying that " Our in-depth understanding of both the courier industry and the technology relating to it enables us to offer a guaranteed service to our clients" they managed to lose my luggage!!! and when it was eventually discovered (a few days before i was due to come home from the Maldives!!) it was found mislaid in a container at Charles de Gaulle airport however that particular container contained food products and unfortunately one of the packages had burst covering the contents of the container with a toxic food dye so my precious luggage was incinerated!!!(i havent had confirmation that it has actually been burnt yet but it is about to be if it hasnt already!) i cant begin to explain how devastated i am, the company advertise that they have never lost a bag to date but during one tearful exchange with a staff member they did admit to losing 9 bags in 6 years (well thats not none is it!!) i cant believe that all my precious belongings have been destroyed and i will never see them again. I just want to warn others about the perils of using this service, the icing on the cake is that the company are not even responsible for compensating me for the contents (if only i had read the small print i would never have used the service!) i really dont think a professional company like British airways should be advertising and promoting such a cowboy establishment. i will never ever complain again about how heavy my suitcase is!! lets face it even if BA had mislaid it at least i would have got it back eventually!! my advice is if you have a lot of luggage just pay for excess baggage dont be tempted by the false claims from "First Luggage"!!
