I do think you have a point here. Perhaps you should right a letter to Atlanta and request that Skymiles members get the same deal as those in Flying Blue. You might want to think this through ahead of time, however.
Are you willing for most fares on DL and partner airlines to only earn 25% of the miles flown to a maximum of 100% reserved only for a fully paid Y ticket and as little as 125% to 150% for a TATL business class ticket as they do on Flying Blue?
Are you willing to always have to pay fees and taxes when redeeming award tickets that amount to hundreds and hundreds of dollars and often exceed the price of buying a discounted ticket outright as is the case on Flying Blue?
Are you willing to have SWUs eliminated from Skymiles since Flying Blue members have no SWUs are are thus not able to upgrade TATL for free on their own airline, let alone on Delta?
Are you willing to give up all the cushy agreements with AMEX and the multiple promotions on miles earning that means that DL Skymiles members can often become elite without having earned it by flying and generally earn as much as 7 times (!) more miles per flight than most Flying Blue members?
As to the upgrades on DL flights, the situation is not at all comparable to the days of the real joint venture between NW and KL when there really was harmonization across the programs and the service. FB members only receive day of flight upgrades on DL after all Skymiles members down to the lowliest Silver have been upgraded. As a Platinum on Flying Blue (that requires 280,000 (!!!!) real BIS miles per year to become when flying economy tickets), you will only be "upgraded" to up-front with free basket of junk food class on DL if there is no Silver left on the list that "earned" it by putting their hot dog stand's purchases on AMEX. In practice this means usually being #71 on a list of 71 with 2 open seats...
In contrast, op ups within Europe on KL treat Flying Blue and Skymiles members equally. Are you willing for DL Skymiles members to be treated like second class ciitizens the way that DL treats Flying Blue members?
Perhaps you should start a poll here, seeing how much support you get for having Skymiles be harmonized with Flying Blue. I can tell you one thing, there would be MUCH FEWER SKYMILES ELITES fighting over the upgrades and much less miles inflation. And, you could book just about any award ticket you wanted, availability is no problem on the FB side (except of course if you want to book DL, which because of all the miles floating around and DL's revenue management is often impossible).
