This has been my experience as well. Here are 3 AWD#'s that have worked well for me in the past:

D002807 ASAP (There is a thread regarding this one on the AVIS forum somewhere)
A108300 Costco
B790000 Entertainment Book

I am not aware of any AAA AWD# for Avis either. Only Hertz.
