Once "SSSS" put me in a different security line which wound up being faster, usually it's only a small inconvenience, and once (MDW) it caused me to miss a flight. There were three of us sitting on a bench for over thirty minutes waiting for a TSA agent to check us. I also remember it the TSA agents being rude in New Orleans when I was once subject to "SSSS" scrutiny.

"SSSS" prints on the BP when the airline thinks TSA should give you extra scrutiny because you've done something suspicious, such as purchasing a ticket at the last minute or have no ID. I haven't seen it since TSA starting getting the ID information with the reservation, but maybe others have.
