True, but it's a side issue, and as we don't if the OP's relationship with their partner is formal or informal I think the way to address this side issue (if at all) should have been something like "If you are not legally married then some countries may require you to formalise your relationship before they give you permanent residence"
I think that's what I originally wrote
To me, it is not a side issue, but the key issue. If they have a document, a residence permit should be no problem.
