As the OP I feel I should do a follow up. I did go back after spending some time in the United First Lounge. There were several more passengers in the Suites lounge and the attendants seemed to be a bit more engaged. I quickly figured out that they bring you a towel and a drink and then it is self serve.

Perhaps my surprise came from the difference from the experience in the air and that its a dedicated First Class lounge. I found ANA to be absolutely superb in the air (trip report coming soon)...a world class level of service. The Suites lounge didn't feel that better than the "regular" lounge next door, which I sat in for a half hour. And was no better than United's First Lounge. A bit smaller and maybe a bit more food. Seems as though ANA would try and make it a little more exceptional considering how first rate the cabin service was.

But I won't complain anymore. It was still a nice place to be.
