Where did you hear that? I just earned 1.6 miles for a recent Mercure stay on my AF Plat Amex.
As for all this speculation based on what someone saw on a neighbors PC, I don't put any value in it. I once sat next to a UA exec on a flight and noticed on his PC a proposal to make radical changes to United. It was a pitch to management that never became reality. I think that can be assumed to be the same in this case. I'm sure that there are thousands of presentations given to AF/KL management each year that get sent to the trash bin.
